This holiday season I have curated a list of 5 small businesses to shop from this year. All of these local shops create handcrafted products from lovely home decor to soy wax candles and more. 5 Ontario Small Businesses to Shop From This SeasonUZURI design & decorYachna is the owner of Uzuri Design & Decor. She is formerly from South Africa, and now lives in Canada. She is a writer by day, and always had a love for arts and crafts. Two years ago, she started making handmade wreaths for her own home and then decided to expand that into a business. Today she makes and sell wreaths and table decor with faux florals and delivers across Canada. Each floral is carefully hand-picked and matched based on the colour palettes that she creates. Some pieces are themed or seasonal, and accents are added to elevate the theme. Custom pieces are also available on request for weddings and other events. JJJCROCHETJen is the sole crocheter behind JJJCrochet. She creates crochet gifts, stuffed animals and characters. Jen uses new and up cycled yarn to create all her beautiful items. The best part of having her small shop is being able to bring to life her client's ideas. She loves to see their reaction when they see the finished product. my little crateMiroslava is the creator behind “My Little Crate”. This small woodworking business started with the simple idea of keeping her son’s toys organized with customized wooden crates, and it quickly escalated to different types of wooden decor. With the help of a Dewalt Scroll Saw, she hand cuts all sorts of home decor and signs for other amazing small businesses. She also creates unique designs from her own creative mind to decorate your happy place or to gift to a special someone. Scent & spiritTabitha began watching a candle making video and thought it would be a fun craft to do with her friends for Halloween. She gathered supplies and they made a candle with herbs and wax melts. After that, she was obsessed and started making them as gifts for family and friends. It's her favourite thing to do even when she is feeling down. When her father passed 2 years ago before Christmas, she also made candles for everyone who attended his funeral (9 people because of covid). She likes to think he continues to be by her side when she creates candles. Part of the reason her business is called Scent & Spirit is because of her father. CLAY TULIPS BY CCheryl is the designer behind Clay Tulips by C. Her jewellery making began as a hobby when her youngest child started school full-time and turned into a small business in 2015. Her love of the outdoors is seen in the silver jewellery she creates. Using recycled silver, she imprints pieces of nature into her pendants, earrings, rings and bracelets. She also loves using unique stamps and interesting buttons in her designs. Make sure to check out her personalized collection too! I have personally shopped from each of these small shops and highly recommend each of them.
Take care and happy shopping! Cheryl 🎁
