Behind The Bench: The Stories Behind Each Design

Initial and Birthstone Bracelet

This wrapped bracelet was created for my friend as gift to thank her for hosting my very first jewellery party. She held it at her home and we invited close friends in 2015. This was my first time selling my jewellery.

This corded bracelet was designed with her initial J. I also added a clear cubic zirconia birthstone for her April birthday. Thank you so much J for pushing me out of my comfort zone!

I was fortunate to have a wonderful kindergarten teacher for both of my boys. I volunteered in her classroom. We actually taught at the same school many years before that.

When she retired, I wanted to create a necklace for her. I chose the initial R for her name. I added a tiny silver apple charm to represent her years of teaching.

I continued to volunteer at the school after she retired. I was so happy to see her wearing the necklace when she came back to visit.

Fine Silver Raspberry Textured Leaf Earrings

In 2020 was my 25th wedding anniversary. We were in locked down at the time, so my husband and I took a walk in one of our local Mississauga  parks on our anniversary. 

I collected some wild raspberry leaves and they had the most glorious texture. I created a special collection including these silver earrings. 

It was the beginning of the first collection that I debuted on my newly created website.

What do you call your grandmother? There are so many special names including "gigi". 

In person shows have given me the opportunity to meet new customers including gigi. She commissioned me to create this personalized necklace for her. I added two tiny hearts and learned afterward she has two grandchildren that live in the UK.

She went to visit them and wore her new necklace. I saw her a year later at the same market and she was still wearing her special necklace.

Bronze Tulip Pendant Necklaces

To mark 10 years in business, this year I decided to delve into bronze metal clay. I learned it's very different to work with than silver. It requires a two stage firing versus one stage. It involves multiple steps to polish it too.

If you look carefully at the details of the pendants, you will see tulips imprinted into the bronze. This was created by a tulip template that I specially designed for this collection.
